STRIPES

The History of Stripes in Fashion.

During the Midievel Times Prisoners, Prostitutes, Clowns, Hangmen and the "condemmed" wore striped clothing.
In France, where it all started, stripes were evil (1310).
A cobbler (which was believed to be a member of the local clergy, was sent to death, because he had been caught wearing striped clothing. Read more about this in Michel Pastoureau's book, The Devil's Cloth.
Two monks from Palestine came to Paris one day wearing horizontal striped cloaks. They never thought to kick up such a fuss by wearing their official robes. They were known as the "barred brothers" and Pope Boniface Vlll gave orders that no religion were to wear striped clothing.
During the 12th and 13th century was not a good time at all to wear the striped garment. You were definitely not from the upper class when you wore it.

Luckily these days Stripes have become high fashion again. In fact, it is a huge trend in 2013. Designers are re-using stripes in their collections and the result? It is simply beautiful. Stripes can make you look thin if you are skinny and bigger if you are small. Lots can be done with stripes.
